Part of a series of emails to our exhibitors in an effort to provide helpful information about their interaction with the show office and other staff at the show.  If you have a particular question you would like addressed, please feel free to make a suggestion.   Please note that every effort is made to ensure that all rule citations are current and correct as of the publishing date, however, USEF and other organizations continuously make rule changes throughout the year and with each new year.

Case 2011:3-4, Child v. Adult

Each Zone has its own nuances for the Child and Adult Amateur divisions; be sure to check for changes during the year and know in which Zone you are competing; not where you accumulate points, but in what state (e.g. zone) the horse show is located..  We have highlighted Zones 3 and 4 as most of our shows and our exhibitors are located within those areas.

ZONE 3

North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, West Virginia, Washington DC

ZONE 4

Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina

CHILD -
Zone awards offered as two age groups:  14&U and 15-17
Horses to be jogged in accordance with HU 132
Fences 3'; minimum 8 fences

RIDER may not compete above 3'3 except for equitation, CH/AA jumper and Pony jumper.

CHILD -
Zone awards offered as two age groups:
14&U and 15-17
Horse MAY be jogged at management’s discretion.
Classes may be divided by age group and/or by height of fences. 
Fences 3' or 3'3; Classics earn bonus points of 35,30,25,20,15,10,6,5 (eight places).  Horse may be ridden by only one rider in Classic even if competing in two sections of division
RIDERS may enter any Equitation Class but may not cross-enter any Junior Hunter or [Junior] Jumper class at the same show.

HORSES may cross enter multiple sections of Children’s and/or any class where otherwise eligible. 

ADULT AMATEUR-
Rider must have valid Amateur Card.
If division split, split must be 18-35 and 36+
Horses to be jogged in accordance with HU 132
Fences 3'; minimum 8 fences
RIDER may not compete above 3'3 except for CH/AA jumper. 
Rider may cross-enter Amateur-Owner 3'3 and Adult Amateur if showing different horses, all of which must be owned by the rider.

ADULT AMATEUR-
Rider must have a valid Amateur Card.
Zone awards offered as two age groups:
18-35 and 36+.
Horse MAY be jogged at management’s discretion.
Classes may be divided by age group and/or by height of fences. 
Fences 3' or 3'3; Classics earn bonus points of 35,30,25,20,15,10,6,5 (eight places).  Horse may be ridden by only one rider in Classic even competing in two sections of division RIDERS may enter any Equitation Class; if showing in the Amateur-Owner Hunter or Amateur-Owner Jumper division, rider may only compete on horses owned by the rider; leased horses are NOT eligible under this provision.
HORSES may cross enter multiple sections of Adult Amateur and/or any class where otherwise eligible. 

CHILD PONY
Zone awards offered as two height groups:
Large (over 13.2 up to 14.2) and Small/Medium (up to 13.2).
Ponies to be jogged in accordance with HU132.
Large ponies to jump 2'6' Small/Medium ponies to jump 2'.
Rider may not compete in any class over 3'; pony may not compete in any other rated division/class.

CHILD PONY
Zone awards offered as two height groups:
Large (over 13.2 up to 14.2) and
Small/Medium (up to 13.2)
Pony MAY be jogged at management’s discretion.
Pony may be ridden by Junior rider of any age, but size of rider to pony is of importance.
Fences 2' for Small/Medium' or 2'6 for Large; Classics earn bonus points of 35,30,25,20,15,10,6,5 (eight places).
RIDERS may show only one pony in the Child Pony division IF ALSO competing in any Regular or Green Pony class; rider may not compete in any class where fences exceed 3'3 EXCEPT for Pony Jumper.  The rider/pony combination may not cross enter Child Pony and Regular/Green Pony at the same show.
Pony may enter any class where otherwise eligible.

CHILD/ADULT AMATEUR JUMPER
Rider must be junior or adult with valid Amateur Card. 
Rider may not show in any other jumper class where fences exceed 1.15m.
Fences at 1.05m to 1.10m except the highest money class MAY be set at 1.15m.

CHILD/ADULT AMATEUR JUMPER
Rider must be junior or adult with valid Amateur Card.
Horse/rider combination not eligible to compete in any jumper class above 1.15m at the same show. 
If horse/rider combination competes over 1.15m, same combination may not compete at subsequent shows for 30 days in any CH/AA Class offering $2500 or more in prize money.
Fences at 1.10m to 1.15m.

LOW CHILD [ADULT] JUMPER
Zone Award offered for Low Child Jumper only.
Rider may not compete over 1.15m at the same show.  May cross-enter the CH/AA Jumper division at the same show but not on the same day.
