Hunter Classics by the Numbers

For 2012, the Hunter Classic rule (HU 144) was completely revamped.  Here are some key numbers to remember:

1 - Is the number of classics that may be held for points per hunter section, except classics of Leagues approved by the Federation in accordance with GR915.4b can result in additional "pointed" classics per division.  USEF cannot currently provide a comprehensive list of such leagues, but staff has confirmed to RMI that Marshall & Sterling, North American League, and WIHS Classics all qualify.

2 - Number of classes that must have been completed in the Hunter section to be eligible for the Classic;

2 - Number of ponies one rider can ride in any height section of a pony classic (e.g., 2 smalls, 2 mediums, 2 large, but not 3 smalls);

8 - Number of places to be awarded;

10 - Number of fences in Classic (second) round;

12 - Number of places earning points;

12 - Minimum number of horses to return for the second round, except

20 - Minimum number of horses to return for the second round of a Junior Hunter Classic;

30 - number of horses at which a Junior hunter Classic must be split (method of split not specified) with prize money doubled.

50% (but not less than 12/20), the number of entries to return for the second round;

$250 - the minimum prize money that must be offered in an "B or C" Hunter Classic at an B or C rated competition, except Children's Pony*;

$500 - the minimum prize money that must be offered in an "A" Pony/Green Pony Hunter Classic;

$500 - the minimum prize money that must be offered in an "B or C" Hunter Classic at an "A/AA" rated competition*;

$1000 - the minimum prize money that must be offered in an "A" Hunter Classic;

* HU144 as published provides for doubling prize money for a two-round classic.  However, Presidential Modification dated March 26, 2012, the prize money for a class plus one round OR a two-round classic are the same AND a Children's Pony Hunter Classic has no minimum prize money required.

The number of competitors in the class are no longer determinative of the points earned from the classic:
