2013 April Rule Review

USHJA Wants You!

(If you show in the high Children's or Adult Amateur Jumper)

New for 2013, USHJA is introducing the Regional Children's and Adult Amateur Jumper Championships.  This team event is scheduled for June 19-23, 2013, during the Atlanta Summer Classic II in Conyers, GA.

Here are the basics-

South Region includes Zone 3 & 4; a potential 13 teams for Children's Jumper and 13 teams for Adult Amateur Jumper may be fielded (12 states in the two zones plus a second team from Florida; Florida had more than 150 exhibitors in each section during the three-year analysis period).

A team consists of a minimum of three horse/rider (h/r)  combinations but not more than four h/r combinations. Each h/r combination will compete in the team and the individual competitions.  A fifth h/r combination may be the team's "traveling replacement" and will compete in the individual competition.

If a state is unable to field a team, that state may send up to two h/r combinations to participate in the individual competition.  Alternatively, two or more states that do not have sufficient participants, may combine to field a multi-state team.

For example, Florida has 8 riders who have applied and are ranked who enter the South Championship.  Two teams, four members each, based on ranking, will be able to compete.  Mississippi has 1 rider who has applied and is ranked and West Virginia has 2 riders who have applied and are ranked who enter the South Championship.  A multi-state team with the minimum of 3 riders may be fielded or the h/r combinations may elect to compete only in the individual competition.

Points are accumulated December 1, 2012, through May 19, 2013.  Once you apply, your points and ranking are calculated retroactively for the entire period. Points are accumulated in "high" Children's and Adult Amateur classes with fences set at 1.1m to 1.15m.   Riders who compete above 1.20m during the qualifying period are NOT eligible to partciipate in the Regional Championship.

Standings are available on the USHJA website by eligible horse/rider combination.  Check your Standings regularly to ensure that all points have been properly credited and to determine if any corrections should be made.

For a rider with more than one horse in the top four h/r combinations, the rider may select either horse and the next ranked combinations move up for consideration as a team delegate.

All RMI shows offer three qualifying classes with points awarded to six places as set forth in the table at GR1133.2 A copy of the table is attached here.
